INTRODUCTION: This quasi-experimental study with a pre- and post-test design without a control group was aimed at investigating the effect of music therapy on the self-esteem, motivation, and perceived stress levels of patients with schizophrenia.
METHODS: The study whose sample consisted of 30 patients with schizophrenia who were followed up and treated in a Community Mental Health Center (CMHC) in Türkiye was conducted in 2020.
RESULTS: This study demonstrated that music therapy reduced stress levels and increased self-esteem and motivation levels in patients with schizophrenia (p<0.01).
DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSION: In line with these results, music therapy should be regularly implemented and integrated into routine therapies at CMHC s and psychiatric clinics.
