Nursing Care of Individuals and Their Families with Substance use Disorders

Addiction is defined as a chronic, relapsing brain disease that is characterized by compulsive drug seeking and use despite harmful consequences such as deterioration of physical and mental health and of social, work and family life. Substance abuse is an improper and repetitive use of substances in spite of repetitious problems and undesirable results. Compulsive and repetitive use may result in tolerance to the effect of the drug and withdrawal symptoms when use is reduced or stopped. These are considered substance use disorders. Substance use disorder is a psychiatric illness. Family support is essential to addiction recovery; thus, both the patient and their family should be included together into the rehabilitation program with a family-centered approach. Considering the nurses who work with substance addiction patients, we discuss in the article which nursing diagnoses and applications should be used and how to recognize the signs and symptoms of drug addiction and essential steps to recovery.

Madde Kullanım Bozukluğu Olan Birey ve Ailesinin Hemşirelik Bakımı

Bağımlılık, bireyin beden ve ruh sağlığını, aile, toplum ve iş uyumunu bozacak derecede sık ve fazla miktarda madde kullanma, madde alma isteğini durduramama olarak tanımlanmaktadır. Madde kötüye kullanımı ise, yineleyen sorunlar ve istenmeyen sonuçlara karşın uygunsuz, tekrarlayıcı madde kullanma biçimidir. Madde kötüye kullanımı bireyde fiziksel, ruhsal ya da sosyal bazı sorunlara neden olan ve bireyin aile dinamiklerini olumsuz etkileyen psikiyatrik bir hastalıktır. Tedavisinde hastanın ve ailenin birlikte aile merkezli bir yaklaşımla ele alınması gerekmektedir. Bu makalede, hemşirenin madde bağımlısı bir bireyle çalışırken nasıl bir değerlendirme yapması gerektiği, hangi hemşirelik tanılarını ele alabileceği ve girişimlerinin neleri içermesi gerektiği konuları ele alınmıştır.
