Determination of the situation of exposed to verbal and physical violence of nurses

OBJECTIVE: This study has been made to define the situation of exposed to violence of nurses who work in center.
METHODS: The sample was 109 nurses who have worked in Fatih the state hospital and who accepted to participate this research. The research datas were collected by means of inqury which included the nurses’ socio-demografic features and their opinion about exposed to violence and a questionnaire prepared by the researcher were collected between June- April-2011. The datas were evaluated numbers, and percentage distributions and Chi-square.
RESULTS: It was established that 55.0% of the nurses were at the age of 30-39, 57.8% of them graduated from pre-licensing, 30.3% of them had experiences 21 years and over, 41.3% of them had experiences between 1-5 years work in the section. It was established that 77.0% of the nurses exposed to verbal violence, 11.0% of the nurses exposed to physical violence. In the study, 50.0% of nurses' have faced violence "when they try to cope on their own that the incident", after violence 52.6% of the "anger", 10.5% "anger", 10.5% "fear "they live, 10.5% after the incident" that they want to leave the profession, "and 40.4% suffered violence" that affected business performance "stated.
CONCLUSION: Today, violence, which is disseminative, affects the health sector forcibly. It has been determined that the majority of the health workers are exposed to some type of Verbal violence. Thus, it is important to take necessary measures to prevent workplace violence. This issue should be handled within the framework of nurse education and related schools’ curriculum.

Hemşirelerin sözel ve fiziksel şiddete maruz kalma durumlarının belirlenmesi

AMAÇ: Bu araştırma, hemşirelerin çalışma saatlerinde şiddete maruz kalma durumlarının belirlenmesi amacıyla yapılmıştır.
YÖNTEMLER: Çalışmanın örneklemini Trabzon’da Fatih Devlet Hastanesinde çalışan ve araştırmaya katılmayı kabul eden 109 hemşire oluşturmuştur. Veriler hemşirelerin sosyo-demografik özellikleri ve şiddete maruz kalma durumlarına yönelik sorulardan oluşan ve araştırmacı tarafından hazırlanan anket formu ile Nisan-Haziran 2011 tarihleri arasında toplanmıştır. Verilerin analizinde sayı ve yüzdelik dağılımı ve Ki-kare testi kullanılmıştır.
BULGULAR: Araştırmada, hemşirelerin %55,0’ının 30-39 yaş grubunda, %3,7’sinin erkek, %57,8’inin ön lisans mezunu, %80,6’sının kliniklerde çalıştığı, %30,3’ünün 21 yıl ve üzerinde çalışma deneyimine sahip olduğu, %41,3’ünün 1-5 yıldır son çalıştığı bölümde görev yaptığı ve %77.0’ının sözel şiddete, %11.0’ının ise fiziksel şiddete maruz kaldığı saptanmıştır. Hemşirelerin yarısı şiddetle karşılaştıklarında “kendi kendilerine olayla baş etmeye çalıştıklarını”, şiddet olayından sonra %52,6’sı “öfke”, %10,5’i “kızgınlık”, %10,5’i “korku” yaşadıklarını, %10,5’inin olaydan sonra “mesleği bırakmak istediklerini” ve %40,4’ü uğradıkları şiddetin “iş performansını etkilendiğini” belirtmişlerdir.
SONUÇ: Toplumda yaygınlaşma eğilimi gösteren şiddet sağlık sektörünü de ciddi biçimde etkilemektedir. Araştırmamızda hemşirelerin çoğunun sözel şiddete maruz kaldığı belirlenmiştir. Bu nedenle sağlıkla ilgili iş yerlerinde şiddeti önlemek doğrultusunda gerekli önlemlerin alınması önemlidir. Hemşirelik eğitiminde hasta-hemşire ilişkisi konusunda verilen eğitimin içerisindeki eksikliklerin giderilmesi sorunun çözümünde önemli bir adım olacaktır.
