Electroconvulsive Therapy and Nursing Care

Electroconvulsive therapy is an effective treatment method that is used to cure psychological diseases. However, some patients and their relatives may have negative views about electroconvulsive therapy. Electroconvulsive therapy has a frightening and negative connotation for patients because of their experience, the expressions of other patients who have been cured with the electroconvulsive therapy method, and the use by health personnel of the term ‘shock treatment’. Being supplied of therapeutic condition is the most important way of removing this anxiety and fear. In this report, we examine electroconvulsive therapy and nursing care.

Elektrokonvülsif Tedavi ve Hemşirelik Bakımı

Elektrokonvülsif tedavi ruhsal hastalıkların tedavisinde kullanılan etkili bir tedavi yöntemidir. Ancak, hastalar ve yakınları elekrokonvülsif tedaviye ilişkin olumsuz yargılara sahip olabilmektedirler. Hastalar geçmiş deneyimleri, elektrokonvülsif tedavisi alan hastaların ifadeleri ve sağlık çalışanlarının “şok tedavisi” ifadeleri ile tedaviye korkutucu bir anlam yüklemektedirler. Hastaların yaşadığı bu korku ve anksiyeteyi gidermenin en önemli yolu terapötik ortamın oluşturulmasıdır. Bu yazıda elektrokonvülsif tedavi ve hemşirelik bakımına ilişkin güncel bilgilerin verilmesi amaçlanmıştır.
