Determination of support needs and post-partum support levels of post-partum women

OBJECTIVE: Social support system is a strong source for solution, prevention and treatment of sociological and psychological problems of the individual and for coping with difficult situations. The purpose of this study was to determine the post-partum support needs and post-partum support levels of the post-partum women.
METHODS: This is a descriptive study. A total of 167 post-partum women, who experienced no post-partum complication and accepted to participate in the study, were included in the study. Post-partum Support Questionnaire and face-to-face interview technique were used to collect the data of the study. The data were assessed using SPSS 18.0 software program.
RESULTS: While total mean score obtained by post-partum women from Post-partum Support Questionnaire was 148.61±48.6 in importance of need, their mean score of the support received was 119.21±49.73. Evaluating the received mean scores, it was determined that women felt the need at a significant level but the support received for this need was not considerable. The increase in woman’s age, her and her husband’s low educational level, lack of information regarding the post-partum period and failure to receive support in the infant care decrease the support being received.
CONCLUSION: These results show that the post-partum women cannot receive sufficient support in the post-partum period. Providing social support during the post-partum period is significant in order to sustain the maternal, infant and family health. Thus, it is important for the healthcare personnel to take care of the psychosocial care of women during the post-partum period and provide support for the post-partum women who do not have sufficient support, as well.

Loğusaların destek ihtiyaçlarının ve doğum sonu dönemde alınan destek düzeylerinin belirlenmesi

AMAÇ: Sosyal destek sistemi bireyin sosyolojik ve psikolojik sorunlarının çözümü, önlenmesi ve tedavisinde, zor durumlarla başa çıkabilmesinde güçlü bir kaynaktır. Bu çalışmada loğusaların doğum sonu destek ihtiyaçlarının ve doğum sonu alınan destek düzeylerinin belirlenmesi amaçlanmıştır.
YÖNTEMLER: Araştırma tanımlayıcı tipte yapılmıştır. Araştırma kapsamına post-partum dönem ile ilgili bir komplikasyon yaşamayan sağlıklı loğusalar arasından çalışmaya katılmayı kabul eden toplam 167 loğusa alınmıştır. Araştırma verileri, Doğum Sonrası Destek Ölçeği kullanılarak, yüz yüze görüşme tekniği ile toplanmıştır. Veriler SPSS 18.0 paket programında değerlendirilmiştir.
BULGULAR: Loğusaların Doğum Sonu Destek toplam puan ortalamasının ihtiyacın önemi kısmında 148.61±48.6, alınan destek puan ortalamasının 119.21±49.73 olduğu saptanmıştır. Alınan puan değerlendirildiğinde kadınların önemli düzeyde desteğe ihtiyaç hissettikleri, ancak bu ihtiyaca yönelik alınan desteğin çok fazla olmadığı saptanmıştır. Kadının yaşının artması, kendisinin ve eşinin eğitim düzeyinin düşük olması, doğum sonu döneme yönelik bilgi alınmaması ve bebek bakımında destek alınmayacak olması alınan desteği azaltmaktadır.
SONUÇ: Bu bulgular, loğusaların doğum sonu dönemde yeterli düzeyde destek göremediklerini göstermektedir. Anne, bebek ve aile sağlığının sürdürülebilmesi için doğum sonrası dönemde sosyal desteğin sağlanması önemlidir. Bu nedenle, sağlık personellerinin doğum sonu dönemde kadınların psikososyal bakımıyla da ilgilenmeleri ve yeterli desteği olmayan loğusalara destek sağlanması önem taşımaktadır.
